They are chocolate-nut cookies, rolled in powdered sugar before baking to make them pretty. A good old standby.<\/p>\n<h2>Chocolate Chews<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>1\/2 cup solid vegetable shortening (Crisco)<\/li>\n<li>1 2\/3 cup sugar<\/li>\n<li>2 teaspoons vanilla<\/li>\n<li>2 eggs<\/li>\n<li>2 1-oz. squares unsweetened baking chocolate<\/li>\n<li>2 cups flour<\/li>\n<li>2 teaspoons baking powder<\/li>\n<li>1\/2\u00a0teaspoon salt<\/li>\n<li>1\/3\u00a0cup milk<\/li>\n<li>1\/2\u00a0cup nuts<\/li>\n<li>powdered sugar (to roll the cookies in)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cream Crisco, sugar, and vanilla. Add eggs and chocolate. Combine dry ingredients, then add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Stir in nuts.
